League Champions!

Last night Thorp managed to pull out another win. We played against St. Edwards and won 3-0.  Mason scored an amazing  free kick in the bottom left corner of the net. Everyone was eager to win.  The second game was against Christ Church and we won 5-0.  We  made plenty of passes and have now won the league, well done Thorp!

We have even won with 2 games to go!

THANK YOU to Mr. Lengden and Mr. Bottomley.

Fractions

In maths we have been doing fractions.

In maths we have been making fraction museums.

You can see a half. A quarter. The one at the bottom left is three quarters, it looks a bit like two quarters but you can see three quarters are shaded in.

21st January 2016

This week two ladies from the Childline charity came in and worked with us. We found it very interesting. They gave us a buddy kit and a big sticker. On Monday Miss Judge from Oldham Regional Science Centre came in.  We learnt about convex lenses. We all really enjoyed it. This week we also had a grammar test, we have had a fun week .

last week

At Oldham Regional Science Centre we were focusing on light and shadows. We used the light boxes to reflect  light rays off mirrors. We also made a rainbow by putting a prism on the light source.   Reflection happens when a light strikes a surface and bounces off it.  Reflection is the reason we can see ourselves in the mirror!

Don’t forget that Tim Peake the British astronaut is doing a space walk on Friday 15th January..

On Tuesday the police came into talk to us, we did lots of fun challenges. Niah had to put a big coat on and some goggles and run around the hall while playing hook a duck! The Childline charity came into to talk to us. They talked about bullying and abuse and If anything like this was happening to you then you should contact Childline.

We also had a class assembly, we focused on words that will lead us to success such as  motivation, cooperation, talent, creativity and practice. Lots of parents came into see it so the whole class would like to say thank you to the parents who came.

Fables

In year 3 we have been learning about fables

We did a lot of work on the hare and the tortoise, the boy who cried wolf and the fox and the grapes.

We acted out some fables and we did a comic strip on the hare and the tortoise.

Some people read books with lots of fables in.

Also Mrs Shaw read the lion and the mouse to us and we had an interview in threes pretending we were the characters from the story.

We have really enjoyed learning about fables

Another victory for Thorp Primary

Our new kit looks amazing.

When we arrived at Chapel Road, we realized that Firwood Manor weren’t going to turn up so we automatically won the match 3-0. We stood in the rain waiting for our other match against St. Herbert’s. We agreed with their manager that we should play earlier than the league had organised to. The whistle blew for the start of the match straight away from our kick off Thorp was on the attack, when Mason won a free kick from about 15 yards out. Mason was the one who would be taking this free kick. He went for the shot, the ball went high over the wall and right into the top left corner, what a goal! A couple of minutes later Liam came out with the second goal, he was running down the right wing and from range he put his foot through it and lifted the ball across the keeper onto the bottom of the crossbar. It bounced off the other way and just over the line. The remaining minutes had many chances for Thorp but we unfortunately couldn’t put our chances away and the game ended at 2-0. So the defenders didn’t have too much to do apart from 2 tackles. So two more victory’s for Thorp yet again and we are still standing strong at the top of the league!

A new year in Year 6

Happy new year from Thorp!

On Friday 8th the new prefects were elected by Mrs Philips and new jobs were allocated. Because It is a new year we have started new topics In history we are doing Royton through the ages and for English we are doing the princess’ blanket. It’s about a princess who is always cold. This winter has been the warmest winter since records began but we are expecting snow this week, so you might need your blankets just like the princess!

On Monday we are going to Oldham Science Centre we are all very excited. Also next week the childline charity are coming in and the police are coming in to speak to us.  On Thursday we are going to be doing our class assembly. We have been working towards this all week.
