We had a fantastic Science lesson this morning; Miss Judge came from the Regional Science Centre. We were learning about different teeth and how different animals’ teeth compare to human teeth. We discussed the importance of looking after your teeth and then we made our own toothpaste. We all had a brilliant time. Some of us have taken the toothpaste home for our family to try!
This week in Nursery we have been reading the story of Noah’s Ark and singing the song “Who Built the Ark?” The children have loved playing with the animals in our wooden ark.
We have also been working on colours, shape and pattern. We have made pictures on the cork boards and made patterns with the beads.
We have worked very hard on our two new displays. The rocket display was inspired by Jill Murphy’s ‘Whatever Next’ book. We read this book and decided where we would want to go in our own rocket. We then painted our own rockets.
Our second display was inspired by reading ‘Aliens love Underpants’ and ‘Along came the Aliens’ we painted our own aliens. Some had 2, 3, or 4 heads and some had more than 2 eyes.
International Peace Day 21.9.17
In Singing Assembly we have been practising A Little Peace song. Today we were practising it verse by verse to get our voices better and the song better. We have learned some actions to help us remember our lines. Mrs Carey recorded us because we have improved our singing. I like the line ‘when closing my eyes I can see through the dark’ because I think my voice is really good singing that part.
Nursey have settled brilliantly into Thorp school life and have thoroughly enjoyed their first full week.
We have been reading “We’re Going On A Bear Hunt”, “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”, “Brown Bear, Brown Bear” and lots more. The children have been painting pictures from “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” that are now on the wall and look fabulous!
Our favourite rhymes so far are “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” and “Five Little Monkeys Jumping On A Bed.”
This morning we all went to the Regional Science Centre in Oldham as part of our Science topic on digestion. We did an experiment about the digestive system. We used a banana and two digestive biscuits and we mushed them together with saliva (really it was water). Next we put it into a bag and then we added some acid (really it was orange juice). Then we churned it in our hands and then we cut a corner of the bag and squeezed it into some tights (small intestine). After that we cut the knot on the tights and then we squeezed it into a cup. Then we put a small hole in the cup and we placed another cup inside it. When we pressed the other cup the remaining contents came out. (We’ll leave it to your imagination as to what that could have represented!)
We all had a fantastic time and we can’t wait for next week when we will be learning about teeth and making tooth paste.
Yesterday Tony North came in to talk to us about Ancient Egypt. In the morning he was talking to us about the tombs that the Pharaohs (kings) were in. Also there was one girl and one boy that dressed up as ancient Egyptians. In the afternoon we were painting Egyptian artefacts and pictures on papyrus.
Reece and Natasha
We have had a very busy first week. Everybody has tried hard with their lunches and we have all made lots of new friends.
Today we enjoyed our first ‘dough disco’ which is a program that will help strengthen our fingers to make us better writers.
Well done to Hallie and Will who got the first Reception ‘Good Work’ certificates. It was very hard to choose because everyone has worked so hard
