compass points

We have been looking at compass directions and how they help you follow directions. We had to put the correct compass points in the right order so we can locate cities in the United Kingdom next week. The four main points are called the ‘CARDINAL POINTS.’

Year 2

performing in guided reading

During guided reading, some of our children have been reading the play-script for ‘The Giant Jumperee.’ They practised their lines and talked about the expression they would have to use in their voices. When they were ready, they performed the play for the whole class, who really enjoyed it.

Year 2

We had a very fun science lesson today, we were investigating if temperature effects the speed at which chocolate melts. We planned our investigations in groups and then we carried out the investigation.

Year 4

Castleshaw linking schools project

First we went to the coach we were on the coach for at least half an hour. When we got there we met up with Bare Trees Primary School. The first game we played was to meet each other and learn about each other. The second game we played was a picture game were we had to look carefully at a picture and find it we had a card that had numbers up to 18 and we had to clip the number that was on the back of the picture. Then it was dinner time we all had our dinner in a little hut. There was a big house that looked like a castle. Then we went to the playground and we played something like shark attack where we had a rope and we had to get to the raft without falling. Then we moved on to an even smaller one and it was even trickier than the big one. Then we built shelters with a mat, four metal clips and four ropes. Finally we got back on the front of the coach back to our school in time for home time and then we got all of our stuff and went home.

geography train 2

We were back on the geography train this week looking at human and physical features around the school.  Everyone grasped this really well and loved getting outdoors finding the features.

Science

Year 2 have been classifying different things into 3 groups for their Science learning in ‘Living Things and their Habitats.’ We used hula hoops to create 3 different groups.

Living

Dead

Never Alive

We put the post it notes with our ideas into the correct group

My Volcano

First I got some paper and screwed it up so I put pieces to pile up the glue on it. We needed a hair dryer to let the glue dry. When it was dry I painted it grey and brown and I painted lava bits coming down. Next I put sand on it and I went outside to collect some mini trees and a toy tree and put some playdough on it. I hope you like it.

WW2 broadcasting

In topic lessons, Y5 are looking at the events of WW2. On Friday we investigated what the Blackout was, why it was important and how the Blackout impacted everyday life for the public. We were tasked with creating a news broadcast to inform the public about what they must do to prepare their houses for the blackout. We know that television broadcasting was stopped until after the war therefore the public would not have had television broadcasts like the ones we made, however it was fun to pretend! We really enjoyed practicing and performing these broadcasts!
