Swimming competition

On Wednesday 9th March, Thorp Primary selected 7 swimmers from Year 5 and 6 to attend a swimming competition at Royton Baths.

The girls came 4th overall, the most important thing was that they took part and gave it their best. The boys came 3rd overall and achieved a bronze medal. The boys also gave it their all and tried really hard.

The effort that the boys and girls put in was impeccable and Mrs Grayson was a very proud coach. The schools that attended were; Thorp, St Aidens and Oswalds, Crompton Primary and Thornham St James.

Netball team success!

On Tuesday 9th February a small group of Year 5 and 6 girls gathered together to play their second netball match of the year against Stoneleigh Primary School. We have been practising for 4 months for this match. It took a lot of preparation and courage but was worth every second. Both teams had a lot of fun on the pitch running around, throwing and catching the ball as well as working together as a team.

After losing our last match against St Herbert’s the team decided to try harder and we are very proud to announce that we won the game 8-0. It was very wet and cold conditions and by the end of the game we were all soaking wet. We are extremely thankful to any parents who came to watch us and cheer us on in the rain. We are also thankful to Mrs Jones who took some fantastic pictures of our match.

The team worked together and had great success. We are now very excited for our next match and are hoping for more wins in the future.

League Champions!

Last night Thorp managed to pull out another win. We played against St. Edwards and won 3-0.  Mason scored an amazing  free kick in the bottom left corner of the net. Everyone was eager to win.  The second game was against Christ Church and we won 5-0.  We  made plenty of passes and have now won the league, well done Thorp!

We have even won with 2 games to go!

THANK YOU to Mr. Lengden and Mr. Bottomley.

Another victory for Thorp Primary

Our new kit looks amazing.

When we arrived at Chapel Road, we realized that Firwood Manor weren’t going to turn up so we automatically won the match 3-0. We stood in the rain waiting for our other match against St. Herbert’s. We agreed with their manager that we should play earlier than the league had organised to. The whistle blew for the start of the match straight away from our kick off Thorp was on the attack, when Mason won a free kick from about 15 yards out. Mason was the one who would be taking this free kick. He went for the shot, the ball went high over the wall and right into the top left corner, what a goal! A couple of minutes later Liam came out with the second goal, he was running down the right wing and from range he put his foot through it and lifted the ball across the keeper onto the bottom of the crossbar. It bounced off the other way and just over the line. The remaining minutes had many chances for Thorp but we unfortunately couldn’t put our chances away and the game ended at 2-0. So the defenders didn’t have too much to do apart from 2 tackles. So two more victory’s for Thorp yet again and we are still standing strong at the top of the league!

First netball game

The Thorp Netball team had their first match against St. Herberts and had been training for this game for around 3 months. Even though we tried our best and put in tons of effort we got beaten 11-1. We at least now know what we were doing wrong and what we need to improve and work on for our next game which we will hope for a better score. The one goal was scored by Emily in year 6 and it was in the last 5 minutes of the game (it was so pleasing we had a small celebration but then concentrated back on the game!). We are now back to practicing and training and we hope to win our next game.

Thorp v Corpus Christie

Our goal keeper fingers skimmed the ball allowing the opposition to score and put them in the lead five minutes into the game. Our goal was a throw in and a header led to a volley into the top right corner of the net with only two minutes to go.  It was an amazing goal and we were very happy with a draw after losing for most of the game.

Football league report 2/12/15

10 out of 10 for Thorp’s Football Team!

Another two wins for Thorp on Thursday night. This cements Thorp’s place at the top of the league with a perfect 10 wins from 10 games. We may have won are games 1-0 and 2-0 respectively but the children had to work very hard to get the results.

The first match of the night saw Thorp score with the final touch of the game to beat St Edwards 1-0. Jack was very happy to score just before final whistle.

A confident performance in match 2 against Christ Church resulted in a 2-0 win, with goals from Jack and Oscar.

Hopefully more good results to report next week.

Thorp’s amazing football team carried on with their impressive winning streak and were very happy with their 6-0 win against Stanley Road. The boys had a much tougher game second match but played amazingly and came out with a 1-0 win against Yew Tree. The boys, with their amazing one touch passing, managed to get around the defenders and the pitch with no problems. Thorps defenders were strong at the back, also Thorps wingers were up and down like yoyos. The midfielders were springing balls around passing left, right and centre. Then the Thorp keeper made some fantastic saves, keeping us in the match. Further up the pitch Thorp’s striker scored some outstanding goals and Thorp had won another two matches for their school.
