My name is Miss Bowers and I am the Deputy Headteacher of Thorp Primary School. I have previously worked in Sheffield and Barnsley and was delighted to be become part of the Thorp community in September 2014.
In addition to supporting all the staff and children in school I have a particular focus on ensuring children with additional needs make good progress and attain to the best of their ability. As part of that role I am the school SENCo and I work with outside agencies such as health, Local Authority educational resources and social care.
I have a passion for further developing ‘Pupil Voice’ in school by ensuring that there is a strong and active school council operating, as well as children having opportunities to have their thoughts and ideas shared with all stakeholders in school. Last year we raised an amazing £3000 through events organised and run by the school council. Half of this went to the chosen school charity Guide Dogs UK, which meant that we were able to name a guide dog puppy, and we chose ‘Sunny’. The other half was spent on equipment that the children asked for and some was saved for this year. I hope we can achieve this amazing goal this year too!
For this academic year I will be teaching a weekly music lesson in years 4, 5 and 6 . We aim for all these classes to be able to perform in small groups and as a class using a variety of instruments and styles. Each class will also be focussing on a particular instrument. We will be putting on some productions throughout the year to show our skills development and learning.
Many children in school know that my favourite colour is purple, I love rugby union and I have family living in Australia, so like to go travelling there as well as Europe and the USA.
