Welcome back to school and I hope that parents and children alike have had a great summer.
I am very much looking forward to our learning journey in Year 2. We have been discussing good learning habits and the importance of trying our best, even when we don’t get it right the first time. We have also chatted about checking what we have done once we have finished so we know it is our very best effort. There will be weekly tasks on Mathletics and Spellodrome to complete and hopefully enjoy!
I have encouraged the children to read for fifteen minutes every evening after school to someone at home and I would appreciate your support in this. We have given the children two reading books, one from the scheme and one of their own choice from the library. Once they are signed off in their records we can change them in school.
During the week we will have PE with the sports coach on a Monday, and Mrs Neshad will be teaching us RE, handwriting and art or design technology on Monday and Tuesday afternoons. Miss Dunn will be doing music with us on a Thursday.
During the autumn term in Year 2 we will be covering lots of different learning. The full topic plan is on the Planning area of our website.
Some of the maths and English core skills we will be covering this term are:
Maths – Place Value, Counting in 2’s, 5’s, 10’s and 3’s, Measures with Money, Multiplication including X2, X5, and X10 times tables
English – Writing Narratives, Recounts, Character descriptions, Descriptions, Riddles
Punctuation with capital letters, full stops, question marks and exclamation marks.
We will be covering an incredible amount and if any parents or children have anything at home that you think would enhance the children’s learning in any of our learning, feel free to speak to me at the start or end of the day. I look forward to seeing you all, over the course of the term.
