Welcome to Year 4

Welcome to Year 4, my name is Mr Bottomley and I have been teaching for 11 years. I really enjoyed my first year at Thorp Primary School and I am really looking forward to working with my new class. I enjoy all sports and plan to use my enthusiasm to help further develop the sport at school. I am also the subject leader for Computing. At home I love spending time with my little girls. Taylor is 3 now and Katie has just turned 1.

Every Friday we will be going swimming. During these sessions we will be learning a variety of skills so that we can become more competent in the water. This will include swimming a variety of strokes to safe entry in to the water. Our other PE session is on alternate Mondays, which will be either indoor or outdoor (weather dependent).

We have got a very busy year at Thorp. We will be studying the Romans, Anglo Saxons and Vikings in History. Geography will see us looking at places all over the world and then back to Royton for a local study of the area. We will also be finding out about a contrasting UK locality and completing a river study. In Science we will be looking at the Human Body, Electricity and Habitats to name just a few. We will be visiting the Regional Science Centre to find out about the digestive system.

We are taking part in the school linking project this year and we have a partnership with Horton Mill Primary School. We will be involved with a variety of different activities with the children from their school, including visiting Horton Mill school and a trip to Castleshaw later in the school year.

We aim this year for everyone in class to try their best and that this leads to success in whatever we do in school and for everybody to enjoy themselves while in Year 4.
