Thorp Primary School

Year 4

Welcome to Year 4

Our class teacher for the 2025/26 academic year is Mrs Fernandez.  Our teaching assistant is Mrs Smith-Walkden.

In Year Four, we cover many exciting topics to enhance children’s knowledge and understanding in-line with The National Curriculum 2014.  British Values also underpin our curriculum.

Our key topic areas this year are:

Autumn 1 - What were the achievements of the earliest civilizations- particularly the Ancient Egyptians?

Autumn 2 - Why did the Romans invade and settle in Britain?

Spring 1 - Where does our food come from?

Spring 2 - What are rivers and how are they used?

Summer 1 - Why did all the mills disappear from Royton?

Summer 2 - How much do you know about European countries?

P.E.

We will have our PE lessons on a Monday.  It is essential that children remember to bring their outdoor PE kit in on a weekly basis.

Homework and Spellings

Homework will be sent home at the start of each half term. It includes nine fun and varied activities covering subjects like P.E., English, Maths, Science, and other areas of the curriculum. Homework should be completed and returned every Friday.

We also encourage children to read regularly at home and use Times Tables Rock Stars and Spelling Shed to practise their Year 3/4 spellings and improve their times table speed and accuracy, ready for the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC)

Key Dates and Events

Our Class Dojo page is regularly updated with key dates, important announcements, and useful information. It’s the best way to stay connected and stay informed about everything happening in school.
